  • Paths are shared with walkers, strollers and cyclists.
  • A good place to practice run-walk intervals on gentle hills.

Your first run here

Try run 3 minutes / walk 1 minute for 30-40 minutes and focus on relaxed breathing up the gentle rises.

A friendly first dirt trail

Circle C offers wide, gentle paths with rolling hills, and it is a wonderful place to practice run-walk intervals on natural surfaces. It is less technical than the Greenbelt, and it is easy to keep an eye on your route.

A sample 35-minute workout

  1. Walk 5 minutes to warm up.
  2. Run 3 minutes easy and walk 1 minute, repeating 6 times.
  3. Walk 5 minutes to cool down and stretch.

Practice skills here

  • Relaxed breathing on gentle climbs.
  • Short, quick steps on dirt.
  • Looking ahead, scanning far, mid and near.
  • Walking the steeper rises with good posture.

Sun and heat

Open sky means it heats up fast. In summer, go early or late, and carry water. Wear a hat and sunscreen.

Sharing the path

Paths are shared with walkers, strollers, dogs and cyclists. Stay right, announce before passing and be aware of families.

Common mistakes

  • Going out too hard because it feels easy. Keep it conversational.
  • Not carrying water in the heat.
  • Skipping the warm-up.

Once 45 minutes at an easy effort feels comfortable here, try a longer loop or graduate to Walnut Creek, and then to the Greenbelt.
